ĀSANA FOR INCREASED PERCEPTION AND SPIRITUAL EXPANSION
Arm Balancing and Inversions
Inverting poses involve any asanas that lift the feet above the head. The concept behind inverting asanas is expressed in yoga texts as viparita karani, or “opposite process”. Inversions facilitate a new and different perspective physically, mentally, and emotionally. The result of this practice is deep focus and energetic awakening.

SUN SALUTATION SEQUENCE
This is the Inner Power Yoga® Sun Salutation. There are many ways to practice this ancient ritual, but it is generally repeated while facing the Great Eastern Sun. Take time to enjoy the breath as you settle deeply into each posture.
Practice often, and prepare to ROCK IT during our practice time together.

IN PREPARATION FOR YOUR SUN WEEKEND
  • Preview the SUN manual. You may download the pdf and create a hard-copy, or bring a readable device with you to class, so that you can access the material for discussion.
  • Begin to practice and learn the arm balancing asanas and inversions. These will be featured in this month’s curriculum. Start now to familiarize yourself with the asana names in Sanskrit.
  • Know counter poses, considerations, verbal cues and manual adjustments for all the asanas we have studied so far.
  • Practice along with the Sun Salutations video several times. We will be working with this sequence in Circle practices throughout our time together.
  • Begin to create asana sequences using the Sequencing Template.
  • Prepare your Seva Project Proposal.

WHAT TO BRING
  • Your Seva Project Proposal  (NEW FORM)
  • OMwork (See MOON Completion Requirements, below)
  • your journal and writing utensil
  • journal entries, including your asana-meditation-pranayama, teaching and practice experiences
  • a printed hard copy of your manual, or a device to access it online (the studio has internet).
  • an open heart and mind

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
Full attendance and participation is required for the completion of each installment of your education program. At the end of each weekend, you will be assigned a few OMwork assignments to help anchor your learning from the module. These must be completed before you can move onto another installment of your program. You will be asked to read, journal, practice, teach, and create. For this particular module the assignments include the following:
  1. Prepare your Seva proposal and action steps for review.
  2. Continue your daily journal with asana, pranayama, and meditation. Practice everyday and document your thoughts and experiences. Experiment with all the forms of spanda kriyas and alignment principles we have discussed. Record any details in your journal.
  3. Practice teaching asana, meditation, and pranayama practices. Teach at least 3 classes to at least 5 different people (include appropriate pranayama practices in each class) each week. Record any details in your journal.
  4. Create an audio recording of yourself teaching three rounds of each: the warrior vinyasa, the moon salutations, and the sun salutations to a live STF(s).
  5. Prepare your deity report to share with the tribe.
  6. Compose your chakra stories.
  7. Create a “chakra playlist” with a track for each chakra.
  8. Prepare your deity report to share with the tribe.

These projects will be further explained and supported throughout your time together in the weeks following your attendance.
After completion of all four installments of the 200 hour Inner Power Yoga® Education, including your warrior exam and community practicum, you will be eligible to register as a Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance.

Please let me and/or your Inner Power Yoga® Instructors know what questions, ideas, comments, or concerns you may have.
We are here for you every step of the way!
…and really looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

Sincerely,
R.R. Shakti, PhD
